The Gallery is located in the back room of the 4th Street Grille in the Genetti Hotel and Suites, 200 West 4th Street, Downtown Williamsport.

“Janne” is short for Janet Anne. She chose to sign her art with that name when she was an adolescent: influenced by her favorite artist, Vincent Van Gogh, who signed his art using only his first name.

Surrounded during childhood by the museums, theaters, zoos and botanical gardens of New York City, Janne always dabbled in art. She spent the summer of 1969 studying acrylic painting and sculpture at the Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts, but when she had to choose between the high school art squad and AP biology, biology won.

Janne earned a B.A. in 1974 from Queens College with majors in Biology and Anthropology. In 1984 she completed a Ph. D. in Evolutionary Biology from the University of Chicago. In 1986 she began her tenure at Williamsport Area Community College (now Penn College) where she taught biology (primarily human anatomy and physiology). After 30 years, the Williamsport area is her home.

In 2010 a colleague, Ann Marie Furdock, encouraged her to take a class with Rita Bower. That class reawakened her passion for creating art.

In her artist statement Janne references: “Art does not have to have a purpose-...it exists chiefly for its own sake. It is the artist, not art as such that may have an aim in mind.”  (Times Higher Education Magazine 408595.article)

About her art she says: "My art is unfettered. I am not trying to make a statement.  When I create, I am playing."

"Texture, shape and color are most fun for me, so my art is very abstract. I like to experiment and work with anything that is easy to clean up: acrylics, water colors, pastels, alcohol inks, fabric, string, art paper and more. I rent a studio because “the stash” was getting too big. I create pieces that I would hang in my own home. And, glitter is good!"

Janne is a member of BEAL and the Clinton County Arts Council.  She designed the “150 years of Jewish History in Williamsport” exhibit that was displayed at the Taber Museum in July and August 2016. Janne’s second home is Studio 21 of Building 10 of the Pajama Factory: Janne’sheART. She usually displays some of her art in the halls. You can contact her at jannesheart@gmail.com.
